The shastras define the position of kitchen in a house and the location of various amenities such as fireplace, water place, ideal position of window, etc. For eg. As per Vaastu Shaastra, the position of Kitchen in a house should be towards East, the position of fireplace in kitchen should be towards southeast, position of water should be towards northeast, etc. Feng Shui also talks about the various aspects of kitchen. Basically the freshness in kitchen is very important. The science of colours also plays important role. The human engineering has more role to play in kitchen.                   Circulation     Kitchen is a space that is supposed to be managed and arranged in a systematic way. A kitchen should be designed in such a way so as to avoid any hindrance in working. A good design ensures that the circulation space is minimum and the below platform space is effectively used. The movement of the persons working in Kitchen should be comfortable. Depending on the size of kitchen, the system should be designed so as to facilitate its easy movement. Further, the position of utensils should be convenient to access. The triangle working of hob, sink and fridge is very important to increase efficiency.                   Loft     The Lofts are generally of the RCC Slab and are meant for keeping items that are sparingly used. Loft provides the additional storage space and is very useful in small kitchens but care should be taken that the loft should not become difficult for maintenance thereby making it a breeding ground for rats and cockroaches.                   Flooring     The following points should be kept in mind while making flooring: 1) The flooring should be strong. 2) The flooring should not be slippery but that does not mean it should not have smooth surface. In fact rough surfaces are found to be becoming slippery. 3) The floor should be easy to clean and wash. 4) The color should be soothing to eyes and should match to total kitchen decor.                         Prev | Next               Top
